Todd Brunner takes a temporary hiatus from Cyanide Slugs to release his first solo album of new songs since 2019's Cloud Control. Working with veteran drummer Rosemary's Baby, and Lushwood Hills newcomer, lead guitarist "Beans" Mothman, Todd has constructed 10 psychedelic gems of perfect pop pageantry. And augmenting the proceedings with tasteful strings and brass, The Shimmering Lungfish once again adds her distinctive colours to the music.
These are songs in which Todd becomes the storyteller of other characters' tales. The album is less of a personal statement and more like ten glimpses into various alternate worlds where strange people do stranger things. It is a journey away from our world as perhaps a way of seeing our world better.
Fans of Cyanide Slugs will not find many horns on this record, but you will recognise the distinctive psychedelic rock stylings of Mr Brunner's singular songwriting and arrangements. So sit back, pour yourself a drink, fire up a fat one, and prepare for a journey to places unknown!
