Dead Betty
Dead Betty is a duo comprised of multi-instrumentalists Andy Barkwood, Kevin Zitski, and Skip Sales. The music they make is largely played on acoustic stringed and mallet instruments, which include guitar, banjo, ukulele, oud, mandocello, bass, dulcimer, bouzouki, mandolin, resonator, marimba, xylophone, vibraphone, and orchestral bells.
While Dead Betty's music is instrumental, they utilise female vocalists to sing non-lyrical phrases. In this case, the voices are yet another acoustic instrument. The pieces are typically song-length, but the band refuse to call them songs, preferring instead the term, "Excursions".
Dead Betty is part of the vibrant Lushwood Hills music scene, where they regularly perform with The Margot Terpentine Singers, as well as other local musicians.
Sound
Trance-like folky textures with rich, melodic, often acoustic guitar-driven patterns. Elements of American roots music in a non-traditional structure, topped off with the high-pitched voices of angels.
